For those of you who know me well you would know that I have a very close relationship with my family. Enjoying dining out with my father at the new hot spots in town at least weekly, going for brunch with my mother, and sharing a friday night dinner with my sister, cousins, aunty, uncle and grandparents weekly; It would not come as a shock that I have instantaneously formed a home away from home to help me settle in.

Although not the same make up as my traditional family tree, my new found family appear to have come from all strings of life, yet hold together almost naturally.

This blog is simply to introduce you to the faces that you are bound to see pop up in my upcoming blog posts so that you can associate a little better when I replay stories to you.

– I should add, the photos I am using are stollen from their Facebook pages, I have not been granted permission and hope that as my extended family they are not going to get angry at me for posting these!

My untraditional family is comprised of the following (comments are on the photos as usual if you slide your mouse over the picture):

2 German young gentlemen

1 Finland evil genius (as he has put it himself)

1 American home bred boy

and me..the token Aussie female that is needed in every untraditional family!

As you can see, random mix, however it seems to work, so I’m going with the flow!

So last night I witnessed the most amazing thing (I’m not sure if the shock value lyes only with me, or if other women can associate)..

1. Tobias called for a group meeting to discuss our spring break holiday (already I am amazed that a man was taking the initiative to organise this!)

2. The boys spent 3 hours surfing the net for the cheapest connector flights to get us to and from Florida, together with available and suitable accommodation options (I was frantically attending to emails from back home as I tried to rearrange my enrolment and study plan).

3. Now if the above 2 dot points aren’t already amazing enough that there were 4 grown men actively searching and arranging a holiday, the next point is bound to make some of you laugh.

When I turned my head to see what was going on, Finlandia, sitting to my left, had created an excel spread sheet, whereby he was calculating the ratio of the distance to travel to the main night club from each accommodation option vs the cost of the accommodation per night! haha! Now just to paint the picture, the distance between the options were between 300-500 metres, and the price difference was somewhere around $14.00…I couldn’t believe how undecided they all were based on these metrics!

Being the woman of the family, I did what any woman would do, I helped make the decision!

End result, I suggested we don’t stay in the hotel that is on top of the night club (and wouldn’t allow us to sleep at all!), and that we pick one that is within close walking range and still at a pretty comparable price… Done!

So there you have it, March holidays are booked, the family has been constructed, and week 2 has just begun…what will happen next!
